Welcome to Fon du Bourg

Hello and thanks for reading our blog.

We'll be writing and publishing blogs regularly about... well, anything that takes our fancy really.  All our blogs will relate to Fon du Bourg and our time here - which actually only started back in July when we first agreed to buy the place.

We'll write about the gardens, the properties, things we've been up to in the village and the surrounding areas.  We'll write about the ups and, yes, the downs, too.  It'll all be here so please do check back often.

We moved in during November and are (almost) set for our first Christmas in Douzains.

So, this first blog is a quick introduction to us and how we got here.

I'm Renee - hello.

Together with my husband, Richard, I moved to France back in July having sold a business in my home town of Edinburgh.  I'm not quite ready to retire so I wanted to run another business - but in a completely different field; having been an office worker all my life but having some experience in hospitality I decided that running a gite complex was right up my street and so the search began.

France is the natural spot - my brother has lived here for forty years and I have a French nephew and now a great nephew and niece too!

Richard's daughter read French at university and she now lives in Paris so it seems as though we're all gravitating here.

We'd been looking for a place for a couple of years - intending to move to the Dordogne.  However, our estate agent suggested we come to see Fon du Bourg (although she didn't tell us where it was) back in July.

We fell in love immediately... and it was a done deal in a couple of weeks.  Of course, we had to go through the admin process so we finally signed on the dotted line on 11th October.

Our furniture arrived from the UK at the beginning of November and we moved in a couple of weeks later.

The three gites have been operating successfully for a number of years so we're just going to keep the winning formula going - although we are decorating right now - a new experience for Richard.

Me?

Personally, after so many years of office work, I'm really enjoying working in the gardens.  It's winter tidy ups at the moment and I'm really hoping that we can put on a good show of flowers in the spring and summer for our visitors to enjoy.

It's brilliant that we're getting bookings already - we are open and taking reservations - so we're really hoping for a fabulous 2023.

Have a look at our FaceBook page (it's new so we're just getting content up and running) and leave a comment... https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088240212249

There are some pictures of me learning how to use the mower!
